Can I set the akaAT Studio tool to take a screenshot of the failed test step?

Yes. On the “Test case” screen, go to the “Properties” tab. In the “Capture Image” row, select “true”.

In the new release, you can “Capture Image” by select test step then click on the “Capture Image” icon
